I am currently working as a Mental Health Therapist. I’ve served youth in schools working with teachers, school administration and families to provide the best outcomes for children to succeed and thrive emotionally, socially and academically. I have also served adults with severe mental illnesses.
Outside of my professional work, I have volunteered with my previous church and hosted my own outreaches to nursing homes, hospitals, homeless and individuals in need. Furthermore, I have taken on leadership roles in volunteer initiatives, including serving as the Board President of the City of Tulsa's Housing Authority's Employee Association. I also founded a homeless initiative, initiated a crime watch program in my neighborhood and founded Lovolution.- As a mental health therapist and homeless initiative founder, I understand how mental illness and substance abuse disorders can hold homeless individuals back from reaching their potential and thriving. Most of the homeless I encounter tell me they've been kicked out of shelters due to altercations which I believe are fueled by Mental Illness. I believe more intensive therapeutic services can help solve our homeless issue. Furthermore, it is stressful living on the streets and being under stress aggravates mental health conditions causing more danger not only for the homeless individuals but also those around them so I believe these individuals do not belong on the streets. We need more 2nd chance programs for these individuals.
- Tulsa has a shortage of Law Enforcement Officers. We need to expand recruitment efforts by employing more schools to offer criminal justice programs to increase desire and availability to join the force. Additionally, we could use more support and grants like the Byrne Grant which has been shown to play a crucial role in reducing crime. Some areas that implemented the Byrne Grant saw a 60% reduction in crime with the implementation of the Byrne grant. If elected, I will continue working with Law Enforcement to create safer neighborhoods through unique initiatives, programs, funding and resources.
- I would like to make Tulsa a more desirable place to visit, live and start a business. One way Tulsa can do this is by encouraging businesses to adopt flexible work arrangements which can attract a diverse workforce and improve work-life balance. I think the City should consider adopting a 3 day weekend schedule. Additionally, creating and expanding initiatives like Tulsa Remote, 36 Degrees North, and the Greenwood Women's Business Center could motivate both local and out-of-state entrepreneurs to establish businesses in the region. Furthermore, introducing more entrepreneurship courses, programs and opportunities in schools may also ignite a passion and confidence for young entrepreneurs to start businesses in their own City.
Only one, but he has to do it while you are eating dinner.
