With a healthy dose of tenacity, compassion, commitment, ingenuity, dedication, integrity, and a love for family and community, Stephanie Thomas brings a wealth of experience to just about any role. A seasoned public sector professional with nearly two decades of service, Stephanie is the embodiment of infectious selflessness. It is no surprise then that this dedicated public servant is ready to fight for her district, making a choice to serve the community in which she was born and raised—and still lives today, in the same house.

A proud Haitian-American whose parents migrated from Haiti in the 1960s, Stephanie recounts her childhood with a palpable fondness. She especially relishes memories of family outings to the historic Gesu Roman Catholic Church and her tenure at Edison Elementary School, Morningside Elementary School, Nautilus Middle School, and Miami Beach Senior High School. An avid learner, Stephanie went on to earn her Associates’s Degree in Pharmacy from Miami-Dade College, a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management, as well as a Master’s in Health Informatics from Florida International University, and a Master’s degree concentrating in Public Administration from the University of Miami. But she’s not done. A devoted wife, caregiver, and mother of two young adults, Stephanie earned her Doctorate in Health Sciences from the Eastern Virginia Medical School.

It’s little wonder she finds herself eager to use her experiences to serve District 5.
  • Stephanie will stand for the district!
  • District 5 is unique and diverse!
  • District 5 is resilient and resolute!
Healthcare - •Develop telehealth, retail clinics, home-based care, micro-hospitals; and full-service hospitals, moving care closer to District 5 residents •Develop public health interventions and policies that address underlying systemic factors that give rise to such disparities among District 5 residents • Fight to achieve a health care system organized around what physicians do and toward a patient-centered system organized around the needs of the patient •Work hard by filling health care gaps and solving disparities amongst all citizens and; demand both short-term interventions and long-term solutions for District 5 residents.

Public Safety
•Create an environment of community policing that nurtures, builds relationships with community stakeholders and residents •Add a public health lens/component in policing training •Work with law enforcement and legislators and deploy innovative technology to reduce gun violence •Increase police accountability by conducting quarterly performance reviews and psychological evaluations
•In favor of officers wearing body cams.

Economic Development - •Create workshops to share resources, assist with completing grant applications, apply for loans, etc. •Incentivize people, especially college graduates, to start businesses with tax benefits •Advocate assisting businesses to invest in our community, to help create jobs and programs•Advocate for youth programs and encourage partnerships with organizations to be inclusive in the plans
I look up to my mother. She has been an influence in my life. She is always giving, kind and continues to give herself selflessly to others by serving.
The first historical event is being the first to graduate from college in my family. I was 28.
I was a senior and was hired first by a private physician who cared for the football players at Miami Beach Sr. High School. He gave me my first opportunity in the workforce.
