What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
Address has led the nation in rape, sexual assault, and violent crimes against women for decades. If elected, I will fully support efforts and legislation to combat these issues. I will work to #Endthebacklog of untested rape kits, review and redefine terms like "sexual assault" and "sexual acts", and work to make laws that remove firearms from domestic abusers stronger and more enforceable.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Addressing the shortcomings of Alaska's criminal law as it relates to violent crimes like rape, sexual assault, domestic abuse, and child abuse is my top policy priority. Beyond amending our current criminal law, I believe we need to fund and promote victims services throughout our state.
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
I appreciate the work that Governor Walker has done to address the backlog of untested rape kits, promote dating violence education in our schools (Bree's Law), and close the loop holes that allowed Justin Schneider to walk without jail time or registering as a sex offender. I also admire Lisa Murkowski. While we disagree on a number of issues, she always tries her best to represent the people of Alaska. She spends time actively engaging with Alaskans and has a unique appreciation for those of us in Alaska who consider ourselves independent voters.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
I would highly recommend watching the documentary "I am evidence." Warning: it has some content that is hard to watch.
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
Lora Reinbold's Jingle. I in -NO WAY- support that woman. I would very much like her to lose. But, dang, that's a catchy tune.
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
We must start to build our state so that we no longer rely solely on oil for the health of our economy. Right now our economic health is very much tied to price per barrel. We need to encourage other industries (like our budding cannabis, brewery, and distillery industries) to grow. We also need to move toward a more long-term, sustainable form of energy for our state. Renewable Energy is not just the right choice environmentally, it's smart economically.
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
I absolutely believe it is beneficial to build positive relationships between legislatures. While we represent different districts, we are all working to make Alaska better as a state.
What process do you favor for redistricting?
Math. I would like to take the political gerrymandering out of redistricting. While I realize that modeling based strictly on numbers is complicated, I am tired of seeing political gerrymandering from both sides and will happily work against it.

“ | What is your political philosophy?
Voters deserve a choice. We deserve a representative who will do more than simply vote, we need leadership and action. |
