Stephen Bing (March 31, 1965 - June 22, 2020) was a real estate heir. He was a major donor to California's Prop 87 in 2006. According to the Los Angeles Times, the approximately $50 million that Bing spent on the failed initiative was, at the time, "the biggest single personal investment in a ballot proposition in state history."[1]

Biography

Stephen Bing was born in New York, New York, in 1965. He attended Stanford University.[2] When he was 18, he inherited $600 million from his grandfather Leo Bing.[3][4] Bing founded the film financing company Shangri-La Entertainment in 2000.[4] He died on June 22, 2020, after jumping from the 27th floor of his apartment.[2]

In a tweet the following day, President Bill Clinton wrote, "I loved Steve Bing very much. He had a big heart, and he was willing to do anything he could for the people and causes he believed in. I will miss him and his enthusiasm more than I can say, and I hope he’s finally found peace."[2]

Bing donated millions of dollars to Democratic Party officials and causes, including Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi, Dick Durbin, Rahm Emanuel, and Al Franken.[5][6]
