Candidate Connection

Stephen Burd completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2019. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Burd's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1. We should legalize marijuana in NJ and fix a broken criminal justice system that has unfairly targeted poor and minority communities through the government’s war on drugs. 2. Climate change is real and we need programs like The Green New Deal to protect our planet and create green jobs for the people of NJ and the USA. We should not allow private corporations to control access to our drinking water. 3. Women's preventive care, including birth control, is basic health care. We need to fund organizations like Planned Parenthood to ensure that all women have access to affordable family-planning services.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I'm passionate about protecting our environment and ensuring that every person in NJ has access to clean drinking water. I'd also like to incentivize building additional clean energy infrastructure in NJ. I'm also passionate about protecting workers' rights and fully funding the pensions of our state's public employees while protecting their health care. Public employees should not have to sacrifice their health care to balance our budget.
