Stephen J. Rooney was a justice of the Richmond County Supreme Court in the 13th Judicial District of New York. He was appointed to this position in 1996. He was also appointed to the New York Court of Claims that year.[1]

Rooney served as an administrative judge on the court from 2011 to his resignation in September 2017.[2]

Biography

Rooney attended Georgetown University in 1970 for his Bachelors degree and the Albany School of Law in 1976 for his J.D.[1]

Rooney began his legal career in 1977 as an Assistant New York County District Attorney. In 1980, he became an Assistant Richmond County D.A. He then practiced as a partner of the firm Rooney & Rooney from 1986 to 1989.

Rooney began his judicial career in 1989 when he was appointed to the New York City Criminal Court. He was then appointed judge of the New York Court of Claims and Acting Supreme Court Justice in 1996.[1]
