Stephen Janis participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on March 6, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Stephen Janis' responses follow below.[1]
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
“ | 1) Improving Education 2) Steering Growth |
” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
“ | Our school system is threatened by the lack of funding from the state and the constant growth it is under. I believe with my skills and experiences in finance that I can help the board make decisions to overcome these hurdles.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

” |
Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Stephen Janis answered the following:
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
“ | A servant leader is necessary to represent the people in the school district. Someone who is open to listening to others and trying new concepts. Too many elected officials fall for acting for themselves and not for those they represent.[3] | ” |
“ | I would like to see a district that scores high in the education that is taught and offers the best path for performance after high school. I would like to see those who struggle the most in school get the support they need to not just be a better student but a better person. I would like to leave a financially stable school district that does not have to maximize it's taxing of those who live in the district. Finally I want to leave a district where parents can be as active in their child's education as they feel they should be.[3] | ” |
“ | Technology is moving fast into our lives. Just being able to navigation the internet is not sufficient enough. We need to emphasize all forms of technology from smart devices, laptops, tablets, servers, and etc. Having better understandings of social media, electronic research, and knowledge bases will help make sure our students are finding factually reliable information to improve their knowledge. Also a better understanding of technology will help stop our students from falling prey to those who mean harm.[3] | ” |
“ | Our special education departments are taxed to do a multitude of testing and have limited resources at their disposal. I would like to find ways to expand this. I feel so many of our mental health problems today could be handled better with early intervention. Unfortunately our schools are overtaxed and take a long time to evaluate those in need. We need to look to shorten this timeline down and to get these kids into the support they need. This will also help to ease parents frustrations with dealing with this system.[3] | ” |
“ | We are moving toward becoming a cashless society. This will require students to have a greater understanding of all forms of electronic currencies and transactions. We need to make sure are teaching this in our educational curriculum. We need to make sure our students are comfortable with the financial transactions that will be paramount in their lives.[3] | ” |
