I moved to Austin in 1965 and have been a lifelong Texan. I went to college at University of North Texas in Denton Texas.

I come from a blended Jewish/Christian family where I'm the middle child out of nine.

I am a small businessman who has created and turned around several pediatric, therapeutic and veterinary clinics over the last 30 years.

Since the pandemic, I decided to start traveling across America meeting people of all different stripes and cultures and seeing this beautiful country up close. As a change of pace, I worked at the World Series of Poker as a dealer last year... it was a blast.

I decided to run for Congress after seeing the horrific events of January 6, 2021 and realized that east Texas needed new representation in Washington, DC.

  • The right to vote and have it counted fairly is the basis of our Democracy. I will uphold and defend voting rights for all citizens.
  • I will defend women's rights and LGBT+ rights for all citizens of Texas and America
  • I will propose actions and solutions for the weather and climate disasters affecting America and the world. The time for action is now. We must act!!
Actions we can take to preserve our beautiful country from the fires, storms, & floods affecting everyone, and the opportunity to build our economy around solving this critical problem.

The Texas legislature has created undue burden to voting, counting votes and who is allowed to vote. We must push for national laws to restore everyone's right to vote. It is the underlying principal of our entire democracy.

In 1920 Women gained the right to vote. In 2021 Texas took away their rights to body autonomy. We must defend all women's rights in all ways. Equality is for everyone
Surviving and thriving with changing climate conditions that wreak havoc on businesses and people

Uniting the country and its people from the current political chaos

Overcoming the affects Covid-19 has had on every segment of society including businesses, schools, travel, social connections and so much more.

Restoring voting rights into a national standard so everyone's voice is heard fairly without fear of corruption or manipulation

Restoring American's place in the world as the #1 economic power in order to spread democracy, compassion and integrity by example to the world
Congressional offices should be temporary jobs and not lifelong careers. New voices and new ideas help move the country forward.. This also allows citizens to make changes if they are dissatisfied with the actions of their leaders. This concept is based in the constitution.
Some compromise is necessary, but if one side is negotiating in bad faith then the majority must put forth the ideas necessary to resolve current and future problems. We have seen over the past 20 years one party manipulating negotiations, not honoring their agreements and saying NO at every turn. No country should be run this way. The people have spoken. We need results and no more gridlock.

Campaign website

Kocen's campaign website stated the following:

Protecting American Democracy

Our democracy was under assault on January 6, 2021. As your Representative, I will support sweeping legislation to protect and expand voting rights for Americans of all races, religions, and genders.

Protecting Women’s Rights

Women’s rights are threatened both in Texas and across the country. We must enshrine the same protections guaranteed in Roe v. Wade into national legislation to ensure reproductive rights for all women.

Protecting Our Planet

Climate changes threatens everyone on the planet. I’ll work to create solutions that will help us survive climate disasters that affect us all and create economic opportunities for everyone as we work together to save our planet from this existential threat.[3]
