Stephen Saland
Stephen Saland (b. November 12, 1943) is a former Republican member of the New York State Senate, representing District 41 from 1991 to 2013. He previously served as assistant minority whip. Saland has been a councilman for the Town Council of Wappinger. He also served in the New York State Assembly from 1980 to 1990.
Biography
Saland earned his B.A. from the University of Buffalo in 1965 and his J.D. from Rutgers University Law School in 1968. His professional experience includes working as an executive assistant for a New York Assemblyman, as a legislative aide for a New Jersey Assemblyman, and as Counsel for Gellert and Klein, Professional Corporation.[1]

Saland ran in the 2012 election for New York State Senate District 41. He defeated Neil A. DiCarlo in the Republican primary on September 13, 2012; he also ran on the Independence Party of New York State ticket. Saland was defeated by Terry W. Gipson (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3][4]
Saland did not receive the endorsement of the Conservative Party due to his vote in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage.[5]
