Campaign themes

2016

Roberts' campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Fight Against Corruption

We need to

  • reform the campaign finance system
  • end LLC (untraceable corporate) donations and large dollar contributions
  • limit elected officials' outside earnings to 15% of salary

Fight for Affordable Housing

  • Create a new affordable housing program like Mitchell-Lama so the average New Yorker will be able to remain in New York City
  • Protect our seniors by providing them the opportunity to live out their days in New York City through affordable housing
  • Only with new affordable housing will New York City continue to prosper economically by having a large and vibrant middle class

Healthcare

  • Legalize and tax marijuana and use that tax money to pay for a New York universal single payer healthcare system
  • Give those needing medical attention access without financial barriers such as co-pays and deductibles
  • Patients have the ability to choose hospital and doctor
  • Break the stigma associated with mental illness by offering more open access to mental health professionals

Fight for Public Education

  • Increase funding toward public schools at the state level
  • Deconstruct the publicly funded charter school program

Fight for Public Safety

  • Require the use of body cameras for all police officers
  • Expand training regimens to help police officers learn the behaviors and skills needed to interact appropriately with various communities
  • Create a Special Prosecutor's Office to independently investigate all cases within New York State when police kill or seriously injure a civilian or there is an in-custody death[1]
