Stephen Schuster

J. Stephen "Steve" Schuster was a superior court judge of the Cobb County Judicial Circuit in Georgia. He was first elected in 2004.[1] Schuster retired at the end of his term in 2020.[2] Governor Brian Kemp (R) appointed Schuster to serve as a senior judge on the superior court judge of the Cobb County Judicial Circuit on January 1, 2021.[3]
Education
Schuster received his B.A. in economics from Tulane University in 1973 and his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1976. He also graduated from the National Judicial College in 2002.[4]
Career
Schuster worked as a private practice attorney, as well as an assistant district attorney for the Cobb Judicial Circuit. Before his election to the Superior Court in 2004, he was a judge of the Cobb County Juvenile Court.[4][5]

Schuster ran unopposed for re-election to the Cobb Superior Court.[6] He was re-elected after receiving 99.6% of the vote in the July 31 election.[7]
2008
Schuster was re-elected to the Superior Court without opposition.[8]
2004
Schuster was elected to the Cobb Superior Court in the primary on July 20, 2004, defeating Joan P. Davis with 54.9% of the vote.[9]
Noteworthy cases
In July 2023, Schuster began presiding over a motion to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) and Superior Court Judge Robert C. McBurney from the proceedings related to the county's investigation into possible criminal interference in the 2020 presidential election. Former President Donald Trump's (R) legal team filed the motion. Trump was named as one of the subjects of the investigation.[10] A hearing on the motion was initially scheduled for August 10, but Trump's legal team withdrew the motion before the hearing took place. Schuster dismissed the case on August 4, 2023.[11]
