Stephen S. Trott is a federal judge on senior status with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Trott assumed senior status on December 13, 2004.[1]

Early life and education

A native of Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Trott graduated from Wesleyan University with his bachelor's degree in 1962, and from Harvard Law School with his LL.B. in 1965.[1]

Trott was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on August 7, 1987, to a seat vacated by Judge Joseph Sneed. Hearings on Trott's nomination were held before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on November 13, 1987, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on December 3, 1987. Trott was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on March 24, 1988, and he received his commission the next day. Trott assumed senior status on the court on December 31, 2004.[1][2] He was succeeded in this position by Judge John B. Owens.
