Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Tryon's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • #1 An Accountable Congress: My top priority if elected will be to update the web site for Utah’s 3rd Congressional District to provide immediate access to surveys on key issues for registered voters in the district. The site will present an anonymous summary of the “sense of the district,” along with the number of people who have submitted their opinions, by county.
  • Education: Education should be a top priority, and the budget should reflect that priority. America should have the best public school infrastructure in the world, and public education through the doctoral level should be accessible to anyone with the demonstrated aptitude and the desire to earn a PhD. Public education should teach how to think, not what to think.
  • Economy: The economy of Utah's 3rd Congressional District (CD) is dominated by information technology on the Silicon Slopes, along with tourism and extraction of fossil fuels in the southern and eastern countries. Our focus should be on growing information technology and tourism businesses while shifting the energy economy to focus on solar and other sustainable sources.
  • Environment: Taking care of our environment is essential to providing a good quality of life for our children and grandchildren. We have to stop lying to ourselves about climate change—it’s real and it’s already having a strong negative effect on the economies of some developing countries.
  • Action on Climate Change: We must restrict (tax) activities that pollute our environment, including activities that produce greenhouse gases. Development of alternatives to fossil fuel energy generation technology is essential to long term prosperity and security for all countries. The United States should be at the forefront of developing new energy technology.
