My name is Stephon Ferguson. I am a lifelong resident of Fayetteville, NC, a graduate of the Cumberland County Schools, and a Veteran Sergeant of the U.S. Army, serving most of my military career here at Fort Bragg. I have always been involved in service to my nation and community. I graduated on June 10 with one day to celebrate. June 12, I was headed to El Paso, Texas where I went for Basic Training. I ended up being stationed here at Fort Bragg where I served as a Airborne Expert Field Medic.

After being honorably discharged from the military, i went on to pursue my passion for Communications and Broadcasting . My first job in radio was at WLRD 107.7 where I worked as the personality Calvin Spears middays from 10am - 3PM radio. One month after the tragedy of 9-11, I was hired to work as a news reporter on what was Fayetteville's first radio station, WFNC where I went by the name Steve Blackmon. For nearly a decade, I reported daily Fayetteville news and served as a back up anchor for Fayetteville Morning News.

I have served on several boards throughout the city including as a charter member of the city of Fayetteville's Ethics Commission and more recently as a member of the Planning Commission. I have earned degrees in Communications, Film, and Theater, from Fayetteville State and Georgia State Universities, and a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry in Theology and Philosophy from Morehouse School of Religion @ ITC.
  • My vision for District 1 and the city of Fayetteville is one of growth, safety and opportunity. I want to help build a community where businesses can thrive, residents feel secure, and everyone has a voice in shaping our future. My first key focus is Economic Development. Strengthening and supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs. Workforce Training. Employment opportunities. Good paying Jobs. Safe, attractive neighborhoods - that influence business retention and talent attraction. Affordable Housing. Home ownership programs and support. Enhancing our infrastructure -Improving the places where people live, work, learn, and raise their families. Economic growth supports crime reduction, a part of my next main focus, Public Safety
  • Public Safety - I will help fight crime by fully supporting our police chief and the plan he has laid out, ensuring that he has all the necessary tools the department needs to combat crime. We know that it will take the community as a whole. I will help strengthen our community and neighborhood watch programs and promote community engagement. Safety education and continued support of local safety programs and initiatives is crucial. Public Safety also includes Emergency Preparedness and Response Services. I will work with Emergency Services in assuring that we are always prepared in the event of a disaster - to effectively warn and respond. We must also ensure that our streets, sidewalks and other infrastructure are safe, up to par.
  • Quality of Life is my third focus in my balanced approach to moving Fayetteville forward. Fayetteville provides several opportunities for residents to play, exercise, rest and relax, and socially connect. I will work to further enhance our green spaces, parks, and recreational facilities. And enhance communication to our residents that these spaces and opportunities are available to them. I want to enhance the beauty of our city by incorporating a District 1 Beautiful, Fayetteville Beautiful on a district level. Listening to the concerns of the residents of district 1 is a top priority. I will host a town hall at various times throughout the year to not only listen to their concerns but take action to resolve.
I am passionate about the three key areas listed above.
Integrity, Responsibility, Accountability, Leadership, Communication skills, Adaptability, Commitment to public service. and Fairness and Justice.
Listen to the concern of your constituents, collaborate with community leaders and taking action that benefits all.
I believe it is important for anyone holding this office to have some previous leadership training and experience serving on a board or commission - alongside the body of the position you are vying for is a plus.
Local government is unique because it operates closest to the community and directly impacts residents' daily lives.
My life has been about service - from serving on student council in grade school to serving our nation and my community, that it what God placed me on this earth to do. So, to receive, in 2023, from NC Governor Roy Cooper, The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, it stood as personal conformation that I was living out my purpose. The award is the highest recognition for service given in the state of North Carolina.
