Steve Barnett
Steve Barnett (Republican Party) was the South Dakota Secretary of State. He assumed office on January 5, 2019. He left office on December 2, 2022.
Barnett (Republican Party) ran for re-election for South Dakota Secretary of State. He lost in the Republican convention on June 25, 2022.
Barnett resigned as secretary of state on December 2, 2022, to pursue employment in the private sector.[1]
Barnett was the 27th South Dakota state auditor from 2011 to 2019. Barnett, a Republican, was first elected to this position in 2010 and won re-election in 2014.[2]
Biography
Barnett worked for Wells Fargo and held positions within the South Dakota Republican Party. From 2005 to 2010 he served as a constituent services representative in U.S. Senator John Thune's Aberdeen district office.[3]

2014
Barnett ran for re-election as South Dakota Auditor in 2014. He was re-nominated at the Republican convention and faced Libertarian Party candidate Kurt Evans in the general election.[2]

As of this writing, Barnett and his wife, Nicole, lived in Aberdeen. They had one child. Barnett's grandfather, Joe Barnett Sr., served as speaker of the House and Republican majority leader in the South Dakota House of Representatives.[5]
