A TEACHER CHANGED MY LIFE: I entered the third grade reading on the kindergarten level. Mrs. Goodfellow ignited my passion for learning. She’d read stories aloud, stopping at the cliffhanger. If you wanted to know the ending, you had to read it yourself. By the end of the year, I not only caught up with my peers but also developed a lifelong love of reading and a commitment to education.

Do you remember a teacher like that?

COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION: I’m a lifelong learner with extensive experience as a teacher. My background includes BA and MBA degrees, and a lifetime teaching credential in California. Here in Arizona, I had the privilege of teaching business classes at Glendale Community College. Good education is critical to living a good life. We must ensure that our schools are places of inspiration and discovery, where children are taught and encouraged to learn, question and dream. Harnessing the power of innovative educational programs and up-to-date resources gives every student the tools they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving world.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND: Managing businesses, ranging from Marketing Solutions to the magazine division of the Las Vegas Review Journal taught me fiscal responsibility, a crucial element for any school board. My career as a market research analyst, working with clients like Coca Cola and FedEx across 17 states and 6 foreign nations, has tau
  • A successful analyst asks incisive questions, does the research and arrives at data-driven solutions. This ensures all voices are heard and communal needs addressed. By collaborating with community members, teachers, staff and students, we accomplish these GOALS:

    • To champion extraordinary educational opportunities for every learner. • To attract and retain teachers and staff with support and respect. • To support every aspect of student safety.

    • To use facts to improve areas that require solutions.
  • By focusing on these principles and goals, I am confident we can keep our district at the forefront of educational excellence. My commitment is to make our schools places of inspiration and discovery. Join me in this mission to build a brighter future for our children. Together, we can ensure that all students receive the education they deserve.
  • Our students are the future. We owe them the BEST!
The Deer Valley School Bond and Override each need a YES vote. The bond simply renews what we’re already paying. NO NEW TAXES. Our TEACHERS and STUDENTS NEED this!
The author Andy Vachhs, because of his creativity and ability to admit he made a mistake.
GOALS:

• To champion extraordinary educational opportunities for every learner.
• To attract and retain teachers and staff with support and respect.
• To support every aspect of student safety.

• To use facts to improve areas that require solutions.
Civility, Transparency, and collaboration skills create an environment for both trust and progress.
The ability to listen, collaborate and effectively communicate.
To listen to students, teachers, staff, parents and the community to find acceptable solutions to every problem,
Students who can deal with our rapidly changing world.
A hurricane hit New York when I was 7 years old. My family was stranded in it.
At the age of 15, I worked in the Deli Department of a supermarket. It lasted six months. My first job after college was with the Miss Universe Pageant in public relations. It lasted one year.
The Scarlet Letter by Arthur Conan Doyle
My weight. I have been on WW for the last 14 years.
To oversee and aid educators, superintendent and staff in providing the best education experience for students and the best cost.
Students, teachers, staff, parents and the community.
The student body at DVUSD schools is 65.4% White, 3.8% Black, 3.9% Asian or Asian/Pacific Islander, 21.2% Hispanic/Latino, 1% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.4% Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander. 4.4% of students are two or more races.
Also, 48% of students are female, and 52% are male. At schools in DVUSD, 12.0% of students can participate in federal free and reduced-price meal programs. 2.5% of students are English language learners.
Civility is the key to valuing diversity –which needs to be emulated from the board to teaching in the classroom. Beyond that, diversity must be reflected in our community, our staff and the board. We must remain open to diverse opinions and collaborating to arrive at acceptable solutions. We can even design programs that meet the needs of a diverse student population.
It is the board’s responsibility to exclude all books, publications, papers, or audio-visual materials of sectarian, partisan or denominational nature.
My goal is to treat all in the same civil manner. I will listen to all equally, particularly students, teachers, parents and staff.
Advanced learners need modern tools ranging from computers to software, from textbooks to writing materials. All students need access to the educational tools that are provided by teachers and staff.
Apprenticeships are crucial to education. Learning by doing is important.

Technical education is crucial in today's rapidly evolving world.

Anything that expands those two elements must be considered!
I would advocate a BE SMART program be introduced.

Another reason to pass the Bond and Override is school safety.
Beyond faculty and staff are doctors and consultants who should be employed to help.
Deer Valley Education Association PAC, Save Our Schools Arizona
Where all are treated the same...where all can learn!

To serve the community, our district has started programs designed to work with infants to 12th graders.

In Arizona, taxpayer dollars that went to public schools increasingly flow to private schools. Arizona’s voucher system, subsiding private and home schools, created a budget meltdown. The state faces a $1.4 billion budget shortfall, largely because of new voucher spending. Last year alone, the price of vouchers skyrocketed from an original estimate of $65 million to roughly $332 million. Another $429 million is expected this year.

Through May, 75,200 students were enrolled in the voucher system, at a median cost of $7,000- $8,000 per student with no oversight. The Education Department estimates enrollment will increase to around 99,000 participants next year.

If this becomes more problematic, I would first review recommendations from senior staff and then discuss this with fellow board members to collaborate on a path forward. It is our mandate to serve the community!
1. It was handled as well as could be expected.
2. In the future, should a similar event occur, I would suggest zoom classroom events on a daily basis.
