|A TEACHER CHANGED MY LIFE: I entered the third grade reading on the kindergarten level. Mrs. Goodfellow ignited my passion for learning. She’d read stories aloud, stopping at the cliffhanger. If you wanted to know the ending, you had to read it yourself. By the end of the year, I not only caught up with my peers but also developed a lifelong love of reading and a commitment to education.
Do you remember a teacher like that?
COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION: I’m a lifelong learner with extensive experience as a teacher. My background includes BA and MBA degrees, and a lifetime teaching credential in California. Here in Arizona, I had the privilege of teaching business classes at Glendale Community College. Good education is critical to living a good life. We must ensure that our schools are places of inspiration and discovery, where children are taught and encouraged to learn, question and dream. Harnessing the power of innovative educational programs and up-to-date resources gives every student the tools they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving world.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND: Managing businesses, ranging from Marketing Solutions to the magazine division of the Las Vegas Review Journal taught me fiscal responsibility, a crucial element for any school board. My career as a market research analyst, working with clients like Coca Cola and FedEx across 17 states and 6 foreign nations, has tau- A successful analyst asks incisive questions, does the research and arrives at data-driven solutions. This ensures all voices are heard and communal needs addressed. By collaborating with community members, teachers, staff and students, we accomplish these GOALS:
• To champion extraordinary educational opportunities for every learner. • To attract and retain teachers and staff with support and respect. • To support every aspect of student safety.
• To use facts to improve areas that require solutions. - By focusing on these principles and goals, I am confident we can keep our district at the forefront of educational excellence. My commitment is to make our schools places of inspiration and discovery. Join me in this mission to build a brighter future for our children. Together, we can ensure that all students receive the education they deserve.
- Our students are the future. We owe them the BEST!
• To champion extraordinary educational opportunities for every learner.
• To attract and retain teachers and staff with support and respect.
• To support every aspect of student safety.
Also, 48% of students are female, and 52% are male. At schools in DVUSD, 12.0% of students can participate in federal free and reduced-price meal programs. 2.5% of students are English language learners. It is the board’s responsibility to exclude all books, publications, papers, or audio-visual materials of sectarian, partisan or denominational nature.
Civility is the key to valuing diversity –which needs to be emulated from the board to teaching in the classroom. Beyond that, diversity must be reflected in our community, our staff and the board. We must remain open to diverse opinions and collaborating to arrive at acceptable solutions. We can even design programs that meet the needs of a diverse student population.
Technical education is crucial in today's rapidly evolving world.
Another reason to pass the Bond and Override is school safety.
To serve the community, our district has started programs designed to work with infants to 12th graders.
In Arizona, taxpayer dollars that went to public schools increasingly flow to private schools. Arizona’s voucher system, subsiding private and home schools, created a budget meltdown. The state faces a $1.4 billion budget shortfall, largely because of new voucher spending. Last year alone, the price of vouchers skyrocketed from an original estimate of $65 million to roughly $332 million. Another $429 million is expected this year.
Through May, 75,200 students were enrolled in the voucher system, at a median cost of $7,000- $8,000 per student with no oversight. The Education Department estimates enrollment will increase to around 99,000 participants next year.
2. In the future, should a similar event occur, I would suggest zoom classroom events on a daily basis.
