Campaign themes

2011

On his website, Hale highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]

  • Committed to Education
Education is one of my top priorities. As a veteran educator, my wife, Cindy, shares my passion for a strong education system. If elected, I will advocate for educators and those who have no voice of their own, our students. As a parent and a grandparent, I understand that adequate education funding from pre-kindergarten to college is critical to the economic growth of our community and the quality of life of our children.
I also understand that unchecked spending is not the solution. A responsibly developed education budget with required performance and accountability is critical to successfully implementing a system that works.
  • Committed to Jobs
As former head of Mississippi’s lead economic development agency, I understand the impact that a trained and educated work force within our community has on prospective employers, both from existing and new businesses. Education and job creation should go hand in hand. A commitment to a strong education system is the best workforce development investment our state can make.
If elected, I will:
  • Use experience in the recruiting process to attract new jobs to our community;
  • Support adequate funding for existing workforce training programs; and
  • Promote the retention and expansion of our in-state employers.
  • Committed to Independent-Thinking
As a husband, parent, grandparent, and Christian, I understand that my participation in the decision-making process should be based on the values and needs of our community. I will provide the people of District 10 with strong, effective and loyal leadership. I understand that government exists to serve the people, and my role as State Senator will be to act as a mechanism for improving the overall quality of life in District 10.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Mississippi

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
