Steve Johnson (Oregon)
Stephen Blaisdell Johnson (b. May 31, 1947, in Portland, OR) was a 2016 Democratic candidate for governor of Oregon.[1]
Biography
Education
Johnson graduated from David Douglas High School in 1965. He enrolled in Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore., before joining the military. After his honorable discharge, he attended Portland Community College. He later graduated from the Oregon State Policy Academy, the Oregon Military Academy and Officers Basic at the U.S. Army Field Artillery School.[2]
Military service
Johnson was in the U.S. Army from February 1967 to February 1969, stationed as a hospital corpsman at William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Texas. He was also a medic and truck driver and later a second lieutenant in the Artillery Branch for the Oregon Army National Guard.[2]
Career
Johnson has worked as a deputy sheriff of Lane County, Ore. He worked as a realtor at E.G. Stassen's, Realtors, Merck Realty and Bolster and Associates, a brokerage he helped start. He is now a home care worker and a certified community health worker.[2]
Elections
2016
Johnson ran for governor of Oregon in the 2016 special election to complete the term of Governor John Kitzhaber (D), who resigned in February 2015 and was replaced by Kate Brown (D).[1][3]

Johnson was born in 1947 in Portland, Ore., and he grew up in Eagle Creek, Ore. He is the oldest of seven children. His first marriage ended in divorce after 14 years; he has three children with his first wife. His second wife died after 30 years of marriage; he had been married to his current wife for four years at the time he began his 2016 run for governor. Johnson is a former member of the Multnomah County Foster Parents Association.[2]
