|On July 7, 1972, Steve married his wife, Sandy McMahan and had two sons, Steve Jr. born in 1975 and the late Scott Landers born in February 1984. They have five grandchildren.
Steve and his dad, Bob, started Landers Auto Group, opening a used car dealership in 1973. In 1995, the dealerships were sold to United Auto Group (UAG) where Steve continued to preside as President and COO.
In 1998, Roger Penske purchased United Auto Group and made Steve the president of the south-central U.S. region. He was in charge of operations and acquisitions that included Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and Louisiana including all the Chrysler dealerships owned by Roger Penske, in the United States and Puerto Rico. He stepped down as president of the division in 2003, purchasing the Toyota franchise in Little Rock, AR from Penske.
He sold his interest in the dealerships to Luther Automotive where his son, Scott, retained partial ownership and head of operations until his death in 2020.
