Steve Leben
Steve Leben is a former judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals. He served on the court from 2007 to 2020. Leben was appointed to the court by former Democratic Governor Kathleen Sebelius on April 23, 2007, and assumed office on June 15, 2007.[1][2] He was retained by voters in 2008, 2012, and 2016.[3][4] Leben resigned from the court on June 27, 2020, to take a teaching position at the University of Missouri.[5][6]
Education
Leben received his B.S. in journalism from the University of Kansas in 1978 and his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1982.[1]
Career
Before law school, Leben was press secretary for former U.S. Rep. Bob Whittaker of Kansas. Leben practiced law in the Kansas City area before becoming a judge. He first practiced with the law firm of Stinson, Mag & Fizzell for six years and was then in private practice for five years. Leben served as a Johnson County district court judge from 1993 to 2007.[1]
