Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Lindbeck's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Building Alaska’s Economy for the Future: In Alaska, the old way of doing things isn’t working anymore. With falling oil prices, declining business growth, and a tight state budget, Alaska families are struggling more than ever to get by. We won't solve our problems overnight. But we need new energy to take on the enormous challenges that we face and rebuild our economy.
  • Education, Student Debt and College Affordability: Steve was able to attend college in part due to an Alaska student loan program — and worked multiple jobs every summer in order to save enough money to pay his way through school. But the cost of higher education is out of reach for many Americans.
  • Alaska Native Communities: Steve has tremendous respect for Alaska’s Native peoples and their rich cultural heritage. He is strongly committed to protecting subsistence rights, honoring tribal self-determination, and supporting rural economic opportunities. He respects government-to-government relationships with Alaska Native tribes and supports positive partnerships between tribes and ANCs.
  • Standing Up for Women’s Reproductive Rights: Women’s rights and reproductive rights have been under attack across the country -- and Steve will stand up for Alaska women in Congress. Steve is strongly pro-choice, and believes reproductive decisions are a private matter between a woman and her doctor. Steve will defend Planned Parenthood against false and misleading attacks.
  • Preventing Sexual Assault: Alaska faces an epidemic of sexual assault, and the state often has the highest rate of forcible rape in the country. Sexual assault is particularly a challenge in rural areas, where communities often do not have the resources to enforce the law, prosecute offenders, or support sexual assault survivors. And due to state budget cuts, rural villages have lost over half of their public safety officers. Steve will work to fund crisis shelters and community sexual health clinics, and encourage an open conversation about how to address this epidemic.
