Steve Marshall (Republican Party) is the Attorney General of Alabama. He assumed office on February 10, 2017. His current term ends on January 18, 2027.
Marshall (Republican Party) is running for election to the U.S. Senate to represent Alabama. He declared candidacy for the 2026 election.[source]
Marshall was appointed to the office by Gov. Robert Bentley (R) on February 10, 2017, after Luther Strange (R) resigned to serve on an interim basis in the U.S. Senate. Marshall defeated Joseph Siegelman (D) by a margin of 17 percentage points to win election to a full term in 2018.
Biography
Marshall practiced law in the Birmingham and Montgomery offices of Maynard Cooper and Gale P.C. before establishing his own law firm, McLaughlin & Marshall, in Guntersville, Alabama, in 1995. He worked as a prosecutor for several municipal courts in Marshall County and served as a municipal attorney in Arab, Alabama. He also worked as a legal analyst during several legislative sessions for the Alabama House of Representatives.[1]
In 2001, Marshall was appointed district attorney for the 27th Judicial Circuit in Marshall County, Alabama. He was re-elected to the position in 2004, 2010, and 2016.[1]
