2014
Olsen's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
Education
- Excerpt: "Successful businesses have long-term plans for success. Utah needs a five-year plan for a rescue of public education. We need to come together and decide what those goals are, and then make the difficult funding decisions to make it happen. Our most precious economic resource are our children, and the penny wise, pound foolish cuts to education will hurt our families and economy if we don't reverse them."
The environment
- Excerpt: "We need to insist Utah's industrial polluters are investing in the latest technology to do their part to clean the air, and we need innovative solutions to "the last mile" problem in public transportation, to make this important resourse [sic] more user-friendly to commuters. I look forward to using my problem-solving skills to find even more innovative, concrete solutions to Utah's bad air."
Immigration
- Excerpt: "I support comprehensive immigration reform along the lines of the Utah Compact, which was endorsed by all of Utah's major religions and by Utah's business community."
Economic development
- Excerpt: "I have nothing against large, established business, retail or otherwise - just against the corporate welfare that allows them an unfair advantage. These businesses have the cash and profits to build their stores without robbing from our public schools and local public services. I want to help the budding entrepreneurs and small businesses - the real source of new, well paying jobs."
The Second Amendment
- Excerpt: "Probably the most effective measure would be calling a truce to the gun rights war. Getting rid of the emotion, by concentrating on the facts, would allow us to find common ground on things we can agree on. It would also allow associations of firearm owners like the NRA to concentrate their resources on their traditional roles, such as training and firearms safety, which could have a huge effect in reducing the number of accidental deaths, suicides and "heat of the moment" tragedies."
