I have made the San Fernando Valley my home for over 30 years and in that time, I have worked to build coalitions and people power to get things done. As the Southern California Field Director and National Training Manager for Swing Left, I worked to flip local Congressional seats and fought for progressive change. Assembly District 44 residents are looking for leaders who have demonstrated an ability to listen to their concerns and bring people together to solve problems. That’s the track record I have as a grassroots organizer and the kind of elected leader I plan to be.

I have been a SAG-AFTRA member for 30 years, living in the Valley, raising my family, and building a career in the film and television business. Our District is filled with creatives and small business owners who rely on a thriving local production scene. I know how to be an effective advocate for our industry and workers, and I will be the only elected member in Sacramento with any practical experience in entertainment.

I will bring an organizer’s drive to Sacramento, help pass Cal-Care, advance our climate goals, and fight to keep production jobs in Los Angeles.
  • We must address homelessness with urgency and compassion when so many are struggling. We need more temporary, affordable and permanent supportive housing, and end street encampments. We need to invest in mental health and substance use treatment, job training and employment services. We also need to prevent homelessness by supporting renters and making homeownership more affordable and attainable. I’ll lock arms with Mayor Karen Bass and regional leaders to urgently address our homelessness and housing affordability crisis and ensure those seeking treatment get the support they need.
  • Climate change is the single most important issue facing humanity today. It is an existential crisis that hits our poorest and marginalized neighbors the hardest. We must act aggressively and act now to protect our planet and our future. I support a Green New Deal for an equitable transition to clean energy sources that creates and supports union jobs. As State Assemblymember, I’ll take action to address our climate emergency so future generations can inhabit a healthy planet.
  • Our district is home to thousands who work in the entertainment industry and more who depend on its success. Production jobs support our families and are fundamental to our LA economy. I am committed to pursuing stronger incentives to stop runaway production and as a SAG-AFTRA member I will always put our union workers first, and fight to keep our jobs here in LA where they belong!
I support CalCare, California’s Medicare for All plan and will work tirelessly to pass this plan. This is a personal fight for me. When my wife was pregnant, she went into labor three and a half months early, and our daughter was born weighing just a pound and a half. Our health insurance benefits provided by our SAG-AFTRA union membership prevented our family from experiencing tragedy and a lifetime of medical debt. I know the emotional and financial toll costly health emergencies bring on families and support increasing reimbursement rates especially as we work to fix our health care system. Our unfair health care system requires correction in the form of a bold Medicare for All model to stop bankrupting people over health issues.
Growing up, I learned the value of public service from my father who served as Special Counsel to President Lyndon B. Johnson. He helped implement the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Great Society programs such as Medicare and Medicaid to help families access health care. I’ve always believed in aiming for big, bold policy agendas, and I am excited to follow in his footsteps and bring those ideas to the State Assembly.
I believe to be an effective legislator you must lead with integrity, compassion and persistence. We are public servants who's job it is to work every day to make people's lives better. I believe it is important that our elected officials have real lived experience in the communities that they seek to serve. An effective legislator must also have the humility to understand that their own lived experience may be very different than others, so it is essential to work with a diverse team and be accessible to our constituents, community leaders and other stakeholders.
I am proud to be endorsed by the California Teachers Association, Reproductive Freedom For All, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local B-192, International Longshore and Warehouse Union - Southern California District Council, Evolve California, Women’s March Los Angeles, Health Care for All California, Ban SUP (Ban Single Use Plastics), North Valley Democratic Club, Valley Grassroots for Democracy, East Valley Indivisibles, Democrats for Israel Los Angeles, California High School Democrats, and a broad coalition of Democratic leaders and Environmentalists, including: Dolores Huerta - Civil Rights and Labor Icon, Barbara Boxer - Former US Senator, Ed Begley Jr., Actor/Activist, and Pilar Schiavo - CA Assemblymember.
