Steven L. Royal was a 2012 Republican candidate for North Carolina Treasurer in the 2012 elections.
It was the first time Royal sought the office of Treasurer. He previously ran for Congress in 1990.[1]
Royal Majored in business accounting at ASU, graduating in 1975.[1]

Royal ran for North Carolina Treasurer in 2012. He defeated Frank Roche in the May 8 Republican primary[2] and lost to incumbent Janet Cowell (D) in the general election on November 6, 2012.

Issue positions
In information submitted to Ballotpedia, Royal stated his political philosophy as "Limited Constitutional government. Debt beware!" and explained his run for Treasurer, saying, "I hope to achieve total and clear transparency in this office, and eliminate the bad influence of big money in the election process."[1]
