Steve Schale is a Democratic political consultant in Florida. He spent several years working in the Florida House of Representatives before directing President Barack Obama's 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns in Florida. He is the president of Schale Strategies, his political and government affairs firm.

Career

Steve Schale earned a B.A. in history and political science from Sewanee—The University of the South in 1996 and an M.A. in communications from Florida State University in 2008. After he finished his B.A., Schale became a legislative assistant in the Florida House of Representatives from 1996 to 2002. He became the communications director of the Democratic Party caucus in the Florida House of Representatives in 2002 and remained in that position until 2005. As communications director of the party caucus, Schale also served as the communications director for the 2003 and 2005 Democratic Party of Florida state conventions.[1]

In 2005, Schale shifted from the communications director position to become the director for the Florida House of Representatives Democratic caucus. In that position, he recruited candidates to run for the State House and controlled the funds for the party during election cycles. Schale helped Florida State Senator Darren Soto (D) win a special election to the Florida House of Representatives in 2007. He also worked as an aide to former Florida House of Representatives Democratic leader Doug Wiles (D).[1][2][3][4]

Schale Strategies

When President Barack Obama (D) ran for office in 2008, Steve Schale was his campaign's Florida state director. After the election, Schale founded his political and governmental affairs firm, Schale Strategies, in 2009. His clients include the Walt Disney World theme park, AT&T and the Florida Hospital Association. The Sr. Petersburg Times called Schale "one of the savviest and most effective political strategists Florida Democrats have seen in ages." Moreover, Florida International Magazine named Schale among the "100 Movers and Shakers" in Florida in 2008.[1][2][5]

In 2010, Schale worked as an advisor for former Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink (D) when she ran for Governor of Florida in 2010. That year he also advised the Florida Justice Association (FJA), previously known as the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, which aims to strengthen and uphold the civil justice system in Florida and protect the rights of the citizens and consumers of Florida.[2][6]

When President Barack Obama (D) ran for re-election in 2012, Schale worked for the campaign as a senior advisor. That year, the Tampa Bay Times named Schale the most influential Democratic Party strategist in Florida. In 2013, Campaigns & Elections named Schale a top Democratic Party influencer in Florida.[2][7][8]

He served as strategic director when Gwen Graham (D) ran to represent Florida's 2nd Congressional District in 2014.[2]

Schale is a member of the board of trustees of Awesome Tallahassee, a branch of The Awesome Foundation, which is an organization that finances community service projects through "micro-grants" of $1000 at a time. He is also the secretary on the board of directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida .[2][9][10]

2016 election

Steve Schale joined the Draft Biden 2016 Super PAC as an informal advisor in August 2015.[11]
