Steve Stenberg grew up in Chula Vista since 1964. He raised his family here.

From an early age, he learned to dedicate his life to serving his community. First in the USAF, and AF Reserves, Stenberg served in both law enforcement and the fire service. As a US Customs officer, he seized $1.2 million in drugs at the border. He retired with a combined 30 years of public safety service in 2009.

Stenberg then went to the San Diego Fire as an engineer, and later Captain.

In 2012, Del Mar FD hired Stenberg as a Defensible Space Inspector (DSI), where he educated homeowners in fire safety. In 2014 he joined Cal Fire as a DSI until Aug 2022. In 2015, Stenberg's family business earned the “Mayor’s Award for Neighborhood Revitalization” on Third Ave. Stenberg has played “Santa” to orphanages and special needs students; tutored young children, taught students about fire safety, coordinated fundraisers to benefit CV families who lost their homes to fire, for Firefighter/Police Officer Suicide Awareness, and to pay medical expenses for firefighters. Stenberg retired with 45 years of public safety service in 2022. Stenberg wants to draw upon his accumulated expertise to give back to his hometown, Chula Vista.

  • I will prioritize public safety by ensuring our neighborhoods are adequately staffed with police and firefighters to maintain quick response times during crisis.
  • I support Chula Vista's small business community to ensure a strong local economy and more revenue for quality city service.
  • Improve and update infrastructure in Northwest Chula Vista and ensure our older communities receive their fair share of resources..

* Promoting Small Businesses
* Improve and Update Infrastructure
* Fix Homelessness
The City Council works as a team, with the City Manager, to make decisions that affect the day to day operations of the city. Each member brings their own strengths and experiences to work as a team. They provide an honest approach to issues that come before them and help mold the city in the right direction based on the citizen needs and wants from each district. The decisions made here affect the entire city, and as such, must be researched, discussed, and brought together as an united decision for what is best for the city.
* Honesty
  • Integrity
  • Knowledge
  • Willingness to work together as a team toward a common goal
  • Be a self starter when researching answers to city questions and problems
  • Be someone that people can talk to.
  • Seek to understand and address community issues
  • Know that you won't please everyone all the time, but will always seek to achieve the common good
I would like to leave the City, and District 2, in a better place than when I started. There are so many concerns I have about many issues the city is faced with today. However first I would like to continue to develop and finalize some of the work that has been started by my predecessors, such as:
  • Free rides for seniors,
  • Successful development of the Bay Front,
  • Establishment of a university in Chula Vista.
  • Underground Power Lines

  • In addition, I would like my legacy to include leaving my city with a

    • Robust economy
    • Safer neighborhoods with:
    • Fully staffed Police, Fire, and Public Works Department
    • A fully comprehensive Homeless Shelter with well developed and highly effective wrap-around services * *Improved and updated Infrastructure in North West Chula Vista

    Yes and no.

    Yes, because they have seen how the political machine operates and they understand how politics can help or hinder a cause.

    No, because an individual who has not held office can bring a fresh approach, be a breath of fresh air- bringing to the table new perspectives.

    Additionally, oftentimes, those who have held elected office are looking toward the next office rather than dedicating all of their time and attention to meeting the needs of their constituents.
    The skills and expertise that would be most helpful for a City Councilmember are:

    • Be motivated by a personal call to serve and help others
    • Posses the ability to clearly communicate the the needs and interests of constituents
    • The ability to work with Police Officers, Firefighters, Public Works Employees, Non-Profit Organizations, committee members, and other governmental agencies
    • Experience in owning and running a business
    • The ability to clearly communicate with the public, the media, the council, and members of the business community
    • Possess excellent negotiation skills
