2014
The August 26, 2014, general election in Lee County featured three seats up for election. The general election determined if candidates for each seat could garner a majority of the vote total. Armstrong and Teuber advanced to the runoff election.
The District 1 and 5 races were determined in the general election. Mary Fischer won re-election to the District 1 seat against Marilyn Stout. Pam LaRiviere and Carla Ronco ran to replace Thomas Scott, who did not file for re-election. LaRiviere won the open seat.

Campaign themes
2014
Teuber's campaign website listed the following themes for the 2014 race:
“ |
Academics: Local Control and Improvement You hear me on the campaign trail talk about academic alignment. What Does Alignment to Academic Standards Mean? Alignment is a matching of two educational components which strengthens the goals and purpose of both.
Why is alignment important?
Bottom Line Whether you have children in our schools or not, you have a vested interest in who represents you on the Lee County School Board. Almost 45% of your property taxes goes to the Lee County Public Schools!! (see graph on right). Therefore, it is very important that you have someone that has the operational experience, education, and expertise in dealing with a $1.3 Billion enterprise. Good intentions and a desire to help are not enough!! If you were not here in 1998-2002 (before the School Board that I was on was voted in to run the District), I have provided some historical information for your edification. I promise to apply strong fiscal responsibility and conservative values to our spending, making sure that every dollar possible goes into the classroom. I will bring back student mentors and other low and no cost alternatives to improve our education process. Common Core: Eliminate and Oppose "Individual accountability of teachers, linked to test scores and punishment, is not the way to successfully improve our public schools. Common Core is destined to fail because standards and assessments, rather than curriculum and instruction are driving Common Core. Educational improvement should be driven by a focus on capacity building, critical thinking and teaching how to process information effectively. Data should be used as a strategy for improvement, not for accountability purposes. " America’s public school system needs improvement. There are few among us that don’t agree that something needs to be done fix the problems that are attributable to many inherent reasons. However, a new centralized system, taking control away from the local community is not the answer. As we have seen in the increasing number of stories highlighting some of the disturbing lessons associated with the new Common Core standards for education, a federal model is not the answer. Nevertheless, Common Core is here in Florida, and it will reshape our state and the future of America unless we continue to educate our parents, voters and community and fight against its implementation. |
