What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
We have a statewide teacher crisis, and we need to make teachers the focus of our education policy. We invest in our children by investing in our teachers. The most significant action we can take as a legislature to improve student achievement is to hire, train and retain the best teachers. In order for this to happen, we have to look at fair pay and better support for our teachers, and we need to have increased accountability through our education system. To help properly fund education, we must look at our state tax code. We haven't had a meaningful review and reform of our tax code for 40 years. It's time to look at tax breaks and provisions that have not seen the light of day for a long time. My background in tax law, business and economic development give me an edge in evaluating and weighing the provisions of our tax code that need modernization and reform. Finally, Ogden Valley deserves our best attention to carefully balance the need to preserve and protect our unique recreational opportunities—Pineview, the ski resorts, our trails and forests and open lands—with the need to provide a great place for us, our children and grandchildren to live, work and play.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I believe in accountability in our government, and as a public servant, I believe government institutions need to be accountable back to you. I will make accountability a focal point of everything I do as your representative. I am committed to hearing your voices and ensuring that your values are represented on Capitol Hill.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
My experience ? in business as well as public and community service ? has prepared me for this opportunity to serve. I received a law degree from the University of Utah and a Master's in Taxation from the University of Washington. After practicing law for a short time, I took a job with the Boyer Company at the beginning of the Business Depot Ogden project. With a great team I brought half of a billion dollars in private investment into BDO and Ogden, negotiated $250 million in lease transactions and created over 4000 new jobs. The skills I acquired and used to negotiate deals and create partnerships at BDO will get things done for you in the legislature. I am now a real estate consultant and serve on the United Way of Northern Utah Board, the Ogden Valley Planning Commission, the Pineview Advisory Committee and the Ogden Valley Land Trust Board. I previously served on the Ogden Nature Center Board and as the chair of the Eden Park Board. I understand this community, and my experience and dedication will allow me to be an effective legislator and to represent all of the citizens of this district.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
