The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 3, 2014. Matthew Lopresti defeated incumbent Rida Cabanilla Arakawa in the Democratic primary, while Bryan E. Jeremiah defeated Steve Wiggins in the Republican primary. Lopresti defeated Jeremiah and Tom Berg (L) in the general election.[1][2][3]
