Aggravated battery charge (2020)
On June 15, 2020, Steven Baca was arrested after shooting a protester during a clash between demonstrators and the New Mexico Civil Guard, a civilian militia group, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.[1] Protesters gathered in support of removing a statue of Spanish conquistador Juan de Oñate.
Baca was charged with two counts of battery, and after further investigation, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon with a firearm enhancement.[2]
