Steven Bailey (Missouri)
Steven Bailey (Republican Party) ran for election to the Missouri House of Representatives to represent District 87. Bailey lost in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Bailey was a 2016 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 1st Congressional District of Missouri.[1]
Biography
Bailey earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also has a law degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law. Bailey was a trial lawyer for 11 years, both on the defense and the plaintiff's sides, in personal injury lawsuits. He has also done estate planning work. For ten years thereafter, he was of counsel to various law firms and a panel attorney for the Illinois Appellate Defender, Capital Litigation Division. He ceased the practice of law in 2006 to concentrate on his career as a senior lecturer at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He is also a certified financial planner.[2]

Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Democratic. Incumbent William Lacy Clay (D) defeated Steven Bailey (R) and Robb Cunningham (L) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Clay defeated Maria Chappelle-Nadal and Bill Haas in the Democratic primary, while Bailey defeated Paul Berry to win the Republican nomination. The primary elections took place on August 2, 2016. Clay won re-election in the November 8 election.[3][4][5]
