Steven Baird (Democratic Party) ran in a special election to the California State Senate to represent District 1. Baird lost in the special primary on March 26, 2019.

Baird withdrew from election on February 20, 2019.[1] His name still appeared on the primary ballot.[2]

Elections for the California State Senate took place in 2016. The primary election was held on June 7, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016. The candidate filing deadline was February 25, 2016, for candidates filing with signatures. The deadline for candidates using a filing fee to qualify was March 11, 2016.[3]

Incumbent Ted Gaines defeated Rob Rowen in the California State Senate District 1 general election.[4][5]
