Steven Chavez Lodge
Steven Chavez Lodge (Republican Party) ran for election for Governor of California. He lost in the recall election on September 14, 2021.
Lodge was a candidate for District 1 on the Anaheim City Council in California. Although Anaheim's city council elections are officially nonpartisan, Chavez Lodge is known to be affiliated with the Republican Party.[1] He was defeated in the general election on November 8, 2016.
District 1 was a new district in 2016. In 2014, voters approved a ballot measure to expand the Anaheim City Council in 2016 from four council members to six council members.[2] Starting with the 2016 elections, city council members were also selected in by-district elections rather than at-large elections.[2]
Chavez Lodge previously ran for the city council in 2012.[3] He won 10 percent of the vote in that race, placing fifth of nine candidates competing for the two available council seats.[3]
Biography
Chavez Lodge, a U.S. Army veteran, is a principal at the public affairs firm Chamus & Associates.[4] He is also an appointed member of the Orange County Waste Management Commission, an 18-member committee that advises the Orange County Board of Supervisors on waste management issues, and the Anaheim Budget, Investment & Technology Commission, a nine-member board that advises the Anaheim City Council on financial planning, investments, and information technology.[5][6]
Before retiring from the force, Chavez Lodge was a police officer for the city of Santa Ana for 27 years.[4] During his law enforcement career, he was voted Officer of the Year and Detective of the Year and served as a member of the Santa Ana Police Officers Association's board of directors and political action committee.[7]

In his candidate statement of qualifications, Chavez Lodge said:[13]
“ |
Anaheim is a world-class city. It is time to clean up our streets, fix our homeless problem, and end the violent crime that has impacted the safety of our neighborhoods. Like you, I do not believe West Anaheim should serve as the dumping ground for the rest of the city’s problems. Finally, we will have our own voice from District 1 on the Council. As a Commissioner, I have kept a watchful eye on your tax dollars by supporting balanced budgets every year that I have served on the Anaheim Budget Commission. As a Commissioner, I helped save Orange County $100 million. As a military veteran and Homicide Detective, I have strongly advocated for prioritizing public safety in Anaheim’s budget. That is why Sheriff Sandra Hutchens, Police Chief Paul Walters (Ret.), Deputy Police Chief Craig Hunter (Ret.), Crime Survivors Founder Patricia Wenskunas, and numerous local Mayors have endorsed me. I have seen first hand the importance of community policing programs that fostered partnerships between law enforcement, residents and business owners, and protected our families. We must do this for Anaheim. As a West Anaheim resident, I would be honored to earn your vote.[14] |
