Steven M. Constantino is a former acting superintendent of public instruction in Virginia. He was named acting director effective January 1, 2018, by Governor Terry McAuliffe (D).[1]

Constantino began working for the Virginia Department of Education in 2016 as chief academic officer/assistant superintendent of the division of instruction. He began his career in 1980 as a teacher in New York. He was an assistant principal in Prince William County, Virginia, in 1992, and became a principal in 1995. From 2008 to 2011, he served as deputy superintendent in Cobb County Schools in Georgia. From 2011 to 2016, Constantino was division superintendent for the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, Virginia. Constantino has also held positions as an assistant professor at George Mason University and as a faculty member at the College of William & Mary.[1]

The Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction is an appointed position in the Virginia state government. The superintendent is the chief education officer in the commonwealth and serves as secretary of the Board of Education.
