Appointment confusion
On December 30, 2010, former Governor Ted Strickland announced Dankof was chosen as a successor for the retiring A.J. Wagner. Wagner admitted that he wanted to retire under a Democratic governor, in order for his staff to keep their jobs. When he learned that Dankof had the intention of replacing a staff member, Wagner rescinded his resignation, the same day that Dankof's appointment was announced.[7]
Dankof was sworn in on January 3, 2011 and a spokesperson for (the now-former) Governor Strickland said, "...it is the governor's position that Wagner had given up his seat."[8]
Education
Dankof received his undergraduate degree from Ohio University in 1973 and his J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1976.[9]
