I am a product of the American Dream. I grew up in rural Wisconsin surrounded by cows, fields, woods, and water. My home was three blocks from Lake Michigan. I was taught from an early age to care for our natural world. My dad was a carpenter and taught me the skills needed to make things work and get the job done. He instilled in me the work ethic and the ideal that you always finish what you start. My mom is a hard worker and has the ability to easily relate to other people. She taught me the people skills necessary to deal with people. I grew up believing family, friends and neighbors were the most important part of living the good life. My dad was union, my city was union, and I was union. I realized early that working together makes everyone secure I taught and lived in both rural and urban communities for over forty years. My task as a teacher was to make my students problem solvers and excited about learning. I live in rural Wisconsin, spending most of my time gardening or in the political arena. I have two grown children and enjoy visits with them.
  • Communities need to have food, shelter, transportation, education, justice, and healthcare security. It is the job of elected officials to make sure that there is adequate funding and staffing to provide these basic securites to everyone. All members of the community must have soical and economic justice. The Amecian Dream with its inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness must be available to all.
  • Money and the desire for power should not control our elected officials. Money needs to remove from the political process and negaive campaigning needs to stop. We all have the same desire to succeed and provide for our families. Republicans and Democrats want everyone's needs to be met and to make our communities a great place to live and raise our children. We need to return to civility in the political arena. There should be civil debates and discussions of our differences. We need to work together to make sure our government officials work for and serve the communities they represent.
  • Individuals should control their own health care. We need to make sure insurance companies and government do not make health care for us. Abortion is health care and should not be restricted by government. The government should not tell us to have an abortion nor should they tell not to have one. I'm pro-choice for health care.
I'm very pro-public education. We need to make sure our public schools are adequately funded. The education a student should not depend on their zip code. We need a system to fund our public schools that doesn't depend on property taxes. We also need to let teachers have some input into the process of teaching. Some of the best curricula out there were developed by teachers. The state funding of our public universities should also be increased. When I went to college, the State picked up over 60% of the cost of my education. The current funding level from the State is 19%. We need to increase the State funding of our university systems if we are to attract the best and brightest to our universities. We also need to do this to make sure we stay economically competitive. I'm very pro-environment. We need to make sure we protect our ability to live on this Earth. Money and power should not drive our policies towards making the planet habitable. There is no planet B.
