Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Republican. Incumbent Frank LoBiondo (R) defeated David Cole (D) and several third party candidates in the general election on November 8, 2016. LoBiondo faced no challenger in the Republican primary, while Cole defeated Costantino Rozzo in the Democratic primary. The primary elections took place on June 7, 2016. LoBiondo won re-election in the November 8 election.[2][1]
