2018 DUI conviction
In August 2018, Foster was convicted of driving under the influence in September 2017.[1] In court, Foster said that while he was not a frequent drinker, on the night in question he did drink two gins with tonic water to combat symptoms of what he claimed was chronic malaria contracted in Nicaragua in 2000.[2] He was sentenced to six months in prison without bond followed by six months probation. On September 5, 2018, Foster announced his intention to remain on the November general election ballot for Georgia's 14th Congressional District race. He told a local reporter, "Look, I'm not withdrawing."[3] Following the sentencing, his attorney said that Foster planned to appeal.[2] Foster's opponent in the race, incumbent Tom Graves (R), did not comment on the conviction.
