Campaign themes

2013

Gendron's campaign website explained the purpose for his 2013 campaign:

The popular question seems to be “why School Committee?” I can’t tell you how many folks have asked me this, and usually it is followed by “Why not run for City Council again?”, as if running for School Committee is like trying out for the JV team.

The answer is simple:

  • Because our school system is the single most important institution that we have in our city.
  • Because more than half of our City budget is dedicated to our public schools.
  • Because our school systems are educating and preparing the next generation of Lowellians, and if we really want to make a lasting difference in our future, we need to start with them.
  • And because, all of our investments, in our homes and in our city infrastructure, will lose their value if we can’t provide quality education to our citizens.
