Steven Godowsky
Steven Godowsky is a former secretary of education for Delaware. He was sworn in as acting secretary on October 1, 2015, to replace outgoing Secretary Mark Murphy, who stepped down in September 2015 after announcing his resignation the previous month. Markell announced his intention to nominate Godowsky upon Murphy's announcement.[1] Godowsky was confirmed by the state Senate on October 28, 2015.[2] Godowsky was succeeded by Susan Bunting in January 2017.
Biography
Godowsky received his Master's and Bachelor's degrees from Glassboro State University and a doctorate in education from Temple University. In his early career, Godowsky worked as a special education teacher in the former Alfred I. duPont School District in Wilmington and as a supervisor of special programs in the Delaware Department of Public Instruction. He served as principal of Hodgson Vo-Tech High School for 11 years, and became superintendent of the New Castle County Vocational Technical School District in 2003 after having served three years as its assistant superintendent. While superintendent, Godowsky was president of the Delaware Chief School Officers Association for the 2007-2008 school year. Godowsky retired in 2011 and began working as a programs association for Delaware Academy of School Leadership.[2][3]
