Steven M. Gold was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He was first appointed to this position on May 18, 1993.[1][2] He retired from the court on January 4, 2021.[3]

Biography

Education

Judge Gold graduated from Wesleyan University in 1977 with a B.A. degree and from Yale Law School in 1980 with a J.D. degree.[1]

Professional career

Judge Gold began his career in 1980 as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Herbert Murray in Maryland. The following year, he joined the law firm Orans, Elsen & Lupert. He worked as an associate at this firm until 1985, when he became an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York. During his tenure in this office, he became the deputy chief of the Criminal Division. In 1990, he left to work as general counsel for the Department of Investigation of the City of New York. He worked in this capacity until he was appointed to the position of magistrate judge in 1993.[1]

Gold was appointed to the position of federal magistrate judge to the Eastern District of New York on May 18, 1993. He has since been re-appointed in 2001, 2009, and 2017.[1][2]
