Steven M. Wellner
Steven M. Wellner is an associate judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. He joined the court in 2015 after a nomination from President Barack Obama.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Wellner received his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia in 1981 and his J.D. from the University of Michigan School of Law in 1985.[1]

Wellner was first nominated on November 21, 2013, by President Barack Obama to a seat on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia vacated by Judge Kaye K. Christian. Under provisions of Rule XXXI, paragraph six of the standing rules of the Senate, Wellner's nomination was returned to the president on January 3, 2014. President Obama resubmitted the nomination on January 6, 2014. Hearings on Wellner's nomination were held before the United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on March 27, 2014, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) on May 21, 2014. Under provisions of Rule XXXI, paragraph six of the standing rules of the Senate, Wellner's nomination was returned to the president on December 17, 2014. President Obama resubmitted the nomination on April 30, 2015, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) on June 24, 2015, without additional hearings. Wellner was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on November 19, 2015, and he received his appointment later that year.[1][2][3][4]
