Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Reynolds' campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Bring Good-Paying Jobs back to the 4th District: Steven has 28 years of international and national experience bringing jobs back to Tennessee workers. A great job provides stability, and security. Steven understands that and will make it his number one priority to bring jobs back to the 4th District. In order to attract more jobs to the district we must invest in our infrastructure, support our small businesses, and create business friendly environments to attract outside investment. We should also promote entrepreneurship in our district and pathways out of poverty. We have to crack down on the outsourcing of our jobs. U.S. trade policy should reflect the best interests of American firms and workers.
  • Stand Up for Our Veterans: We as a campaign are focused on residents in our District who have served our great nation in the US Armed Forces. We strive to build relationships with local veterans in the 4th District. Veterans and their families are an important focus for Steven. We as a community should come together to address their concerns. Steven believes in supporting opportunities for our local veterans and supports local programs that assist our veterans and their families to thrive in their own communities.
  • Protect Social Security and Medicare: With corporations cutting worker pensions, our grandparents and veterans need Social Security more -- not less. Almost 30% of our district receives Social Security income benefits. The American people know that our Social Security system works, and during the economic collapse of 2008 they saw that while their home equity, 401k’s and savings were devastated, Social Security was the one source of retirement security that people could rely on. The hard working people of Tennessee pay into Social Security all of their lives and deserve to retire with security.
  • Women: Steven has been surrounded by strong women his entire life. He knows that women are pillars of our families and communities. In 2015, female full-time workers made only 79 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of 21 percent. Congress should pass legislation to ensure that women get equal pay for equal work to raise wages for working women and families.
  • Financial Reform: Despite the taxpayers picking up the tab for Wall Street’s recovery, everyday Americans on Main Street are still recovering from the effects of the crisis. In spite of efforts for reform, some members of Congress are putting the public interest at risk to deliver a wish list to narrow Wall Street interests.
