I am a public school teacher running for Allegheny County Council in District 9. In 2011, I co-founded T.E.A.C.H., an organization that worked to stop Pennsylvania state education budget cuts which stole from the neediest children. A year later, I ran a successful campaign through moveon.org to repeal the Voter ID law that disproportionately affected my students’ parents. And since 2014, I’ve written a nationally recognized education and civil rights blog: https://gadflyonthewallblog.com/
  • We need to invest in our children through increased education funding from pre-Kindergarten through grade school and college. This includes increasing county funding to community colleges like CCAC.

  • Public transportation is supposed to be available to everyone, but it is currently not equally accessible to the residents of the Mon Valley where I am running for office. I am advocating for more bus routes in our community.
  • The Mon Valley needs to invest in sustainable energy jobs of the future.
As a public school teacher, education is my number one concern. However, I am also committed to increasing outcomes for my community in the areas of public transportation, sustainable energy jobs and fiscally responsible policies at the county jail so that we stop locking up nonviolent offenders just because they can't pay cash bail or failed a drug test for something like marijuana.
