|- EDUCATION: As a mother, and now a grandmother, and with the current pandemic, I'm passionate about the policies that impact our children in school. I don't feel the state provided solid guidelines to our teachers or parents regarding our school reopening. I also feel there should have been some resources offered to those parents that chose to homeschool, as they will still be paying taxes into the school system. In addition, Utah's kids are funded lowest in the nation and we need assurance that actionable and measurable changes are being made to our school children. When elected, I'll fight to make sure Utah parents are given the power to do what they think is right for their kids.
- SAFE & AFFORDABLE WATER: Every Utahn deserves safe, clean, affordable tap water. At the height of Utah's COVID-19 pandemic, communities in District 21 had to question whether or not their tap water was clean enough to drink. Our tap water has contaminants that are linked with cancer and in amounts well above recommendations for healthy drinking water*. Without action and initiative, our tap water will only get worse. And incidents like what happened in Tooele City will happen all over the state, only more frequently. We owe it to the families of Utah to make sure the tap water that runs through their homes always turns on, is affordable, worry-free, contaminant-free, and always safe to drink. *www.ewg.org
- DIVERSIFICATION OF THE STATE HOUSE: A super majority whether in gender or political party affiliation isn't a balanced institution. As a nation, we've learned that companies that include women in the boardroom prove more successful than those that leave them out. That's true for Fortune 500 companies, mom-and-pop stores, and for our political leadership on the legislative floor as well. This is deemed the critical lift point in social theory. I accomplished gender diversification over the critical mass at overstock. So I know how powerful it will be for the Capital too. During my 15 years at Overstock.com, I'm proud to say that I built the most diverse workforce Utah had ever seen.
Accountability: I believe that all public policy and our elected official's votes and decisions should be transparent and easily accessible to all voters. If we can do our shopping, check-in with our friends, and know what is going on in the world with technology, why can't we also have simple access to clear information and transparency of government through technology? I believe we can.
Education: Utah continues to rank last in educational spending for both students and teachers. We need to assure our kids get their fair share of funding as well as the dedicated teachers and administrators, even in a pandemic.
Balancing the Budget: By bringing my business acumen to the legislative floor, I will be able to bridge the partisan gap to successfully navigate even the most challenging fiscal legislative challenges. And I'll be fighting for equal representation for Tooele County. This includes funding for schools, transportation, infrastructure, and economic development.
I believe in listening to the voices of many, and hearing the needs of YOU. Party lines don't matter as much as people, our families and the community of Tooele County. We live here and we deserve to have our voices heard in our government.
With the super majority of Utah's hill, we no longer have equal representation. I believe issues that affect Utahns could be enhanced with fresh eyes and perspective. I believe in non-partisan politics and that approach will best serve the people of District 21.
I bootstrapped my way into a career as morning show producer and on-air host with broadcaster Citadel Communications. In 2001, a temp agency placed me in the sales department at the start-up e-commerce retailer Overstock.com
