Stuart R. Pollak is a presiding justice of the California First District Court of Appeal, Division Four. Gov. Jerry Brown (D) appointed Pollak to this position on October 26, 2018. The California Commission on Judicial Appointments confirmed his nomination November 26.[1][2]

Pollak was an associate justice on the California First District Court of Appeal, Division Three from 2002 to 2018. He was appointed to the court by former Governor Gray Davis on January 25, 2002. Pollak was retained in 2002 and 2014.[3]

Education

Pollak received his A.B. from Stanford University in 1959 and his LL.B from Harvard Law School in 1962.[4]

Noteworthy cases

Annuity sale as theft (2013)

The First District Court of Appeal reversed the theft conviction of Glenn Neasham, who sold an annuity to an 83-year-old woman later diagnosed with dementia. The appeals court decision was upheld by the California Supreme Court in 2014.
