Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Starr's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Increase the Federal Minimum Wage to $10.10: The US labor market no longer functions properly because of the effects of undocumented workers, employers that hire those workers in violation of the law, globalization and technological advancements.
  • Decriminalize it and Legalize it!: I support Sen. Booker ‘s S. 683 and U.S. Congressman Steve Cohen’s H.R. 1538. The CARERS Act. There are now a total of 18 US Senators signed on as co-sponsors to that bill. Including Sen. Linsey Graham. The co sponsorship is well-balanced bipartisan. Tennessee currently has a cannabis market in this state that exceeds 1 billion annually in illicit monetary gains, with zero revenues collected to be applied to building new schools or to public works, ect.
  • More Mental Health Services for Men Especially Veterans.: If it’s not the guns, then it’s the people. There were almost 11,000 people killed with firearms in the US in 2010. More shocking is the nearly 20,000 suicides using firearms. Guns are part of our national character we are the land of Pioneers, and Cowboys. But sometimes men need someone to talk to and mental health services for men are scarce. I propose a penny a bullet excise tax on ammunition to pay for these services. While you might not know anyone that was killed with a firearm, I bet you know some that has taken their own life that way.
  • Immigration: Walls don't work. The Mongols crossed China's Great Wall. Hadrian's Wall did not keep out the Barbarians, The German's easily crossed the Maginot Line and the East Germans took down the Berlin Wall. We need a realistic immigration policy. We need to know who is here. We need to document the undocumented and create a path to citizenship.
  • A Realistic Foreign Policy that Protects the US and our Allies: We need to completely reevaluate our relationship with the world. America needs to assert its dominance as a economic and military superpower. We need to make some tough decisions as to who are our friends especially in the Middle East. We need to strongly support our friends without backtracking and pressure our enemies to concede to democratic principles. We have to stop abandoning our friends in the Mideast at the first sign of trouble. Time and again history has shown that our tyrant is a whole lot better for the people then their tyrant.
