Superior Court Justice Arthur Brennan set to retire

PORTLAND, Maine: Judge Arthur Brennan of the Maine Superior Court will retire on August 26th. Brennan, who is based in York County, has served on the bench for 30 years.[1] Brennan has applied for active retired status, which means he would still be able to take on cases assigned by the chief justice. His request for active retired status is subject to gubernatorial approval and legislative confirmation.
Brennan's retirement leaves a vacancy for Governor Paul LePage to fill on the Superior Court bench. A judicial selection committee will make recommendations to Governor LePage, who will then send his top choices to the Legislature's Judiciary Committee. The final nominee is subject to confirmation by the state Senate. Governor LePage's first judicial appointment, Gregory Campbell, was sworn into District Court on July 1.[2]
