Washington: On Monday, March 14, Judge Roger A. Bennett, of the Clark County Superior Court, dismissed a case brought by two former students against Clark College. The lawsuit was filed by Marcus Griffith and Jasmine Bhullar, both former students, who claim that a student council of the college held private meetings after the two of them registered complaints about the Spring 2009 student government elections. The state Open Public Meetings Act requires that public entities hold public meetings, but does contain exceptions. The college's attorney requested a dismissal and claimed that the committee was exempt from the law because its meetings were quasi-judicial in nature. Judge Bennett agreed, threw out the case, and said this about the plaintiffs' allegations, "My ruling was that that was flat out not the law."[1]
